Aidan, resident repair artiste at LeZot Camera, got busy turning a plain black-leatherette Canon AE-1 Program into a two-tone masterpiece! Watch the time-lapse video and read about his process.
There's a classic beauty to the standard look of a film camera, but there's also nothing wrong with jazzing it up! Click the image below to view the video.
Here's Aidan's process broken down:
1. Use a heat gun (carefully wave the gun back and forth to prevent direct camera-melting heat) to melt the glue
2. Remove the original leatherette using a pair of sharp, skinny tweezers
3. Clean off the old glue using an alcohol-based solution
4. Place the new leatherette (we get ours from hugostudio) on the body, and press the leatherette to ensure the adhesive backside is really stuck down
This camera is available for purchase at $179.00, so if you'd like a one-of-a-kind Canon AE-1 Program be sure to stop in to the store, or purchase the body online. You never know when a beauty like this will get plucked off the shelf!
